Western vs Eastern University attitudes

In Eastern world (China etc.), university head master discourage parents to accompany their kids during university registration day. They claim that the young adults should start live an independant life. Small little things like paying registration fee yourself, run around here and there to get used to the environment, where to buy food, where is toilets, where is the library etc. all gives the new students meaningful lesson in life as well.

In Western world ( USA etc.) its almost a totally opposite situation. Parents are encouraged to tag along during school open days. Facilities and activities are prepared and organized for parents as well as the students. Some parents can even stay a few days in the dorms, sit in the class together with the students etc. to get to know what and how their kids will be educated. Transparency like this allows better communication in all levels ....
